COVID-19 National Emergency And Federal Public Health Emergency To End May 11, 2023

The federal government announced the COVID-19 National Emergency and Federal Public Health Emergency (PHE) will end on May 11, 2023. Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has been reviewing the guidelines surrounding COVID-19 related vaccines, testing and telehealth services and is sharing details with you now, so you can answer any questions from your members.

Current COVID-19 related benefits will be covered in full through May 11, 2023. After the PHE ends on May 11, the cost for COVID-19 related services for our employer groups will be based on the details of your current health plan benefits.

Note for self-insured groups: Once the PHE ends, self-insured group coverage for COVID-19 related services will revert to the pre COVID-19 coverage for same and similar services as outlined in your self-funded health plan coverage. If a self-insured group chooses to continue to cover COVID-19 related benefits after May 11, 2023, we will consider this a benefit change and require a plan amendment.

IMPORTANT: Review and share the following COVID Benefit Grid which includes the updates we will implement beginning May 12, 2023. Please contact your Account Manager with any questions.
