January Wellbeing Tip: Building A Healthier You

A new year brings new opportunities to focus on your health and wellbeing. While resolutions can be exciting, they often feel daunting—and it’s easy to get discouraged if things don’t go to plan.

To build sustainable behavior change, start small. Bite-sized goals make positive changes to your wellbeing without feeling overwhelming. Broad or overly ambitious goals often lead to frustration and increase the likelihood of giving up.

Instead of aiming for a challenging goal such as “I’ll exercise every day,” begin with something manageable, like walking three times a week for 15 minutes. Finding a support system is a great way to stay motivated and interact with others in your community. If outdoor walking groups aren’t practical during the winter months, consider trying a fitness class instead—many local community recreation centers offer several options that can make the journey easier and more fun!

Remember, it’s okay to adjust your goals or start over. Life isn’t always linear, and neither are goals. Starting again doesn’t mean failure; it means you’re committed to progress.

While resolutions can significantly impact wellbeing, getting routine preventive care is also an important component of overall health. For more information take our The Value of Preventive Care microlearning.
